Air / Oil Separators for Ramnger engine.

Posted: Wed Jun 08, 2005 3:52 pm

'There seems to be two issues. One is an Oil / Air Separator for the vacuum
system and the other is a separator for the engine oil system.

There has been discussion that would indicate that a major savings in oil
and a much cleaner belly on the aircraft if a air / oil separator is installed.

Can anyone provide drawings showing that such a system was on the original
aircraft or an STC for this installation or a 337 that has been approved. To
be as correct as possible it would seem such documentation is needed to keep
Standard Airworthiness for the aircraft.

I would be interested in paper work for either the PT19/23/26 or the F-24
with a Ranger engine.

Many thanks for considering this issue.

'Gene,

For the Engine Air/Oil Separator, there is no STC for the Ranger on any
aircraft. There are some installed via one time field approval using a FAA
337. I just ordered an Airwolf for a Citabria. Will install using a FAA 337
and the approved engineering that Airwolf will provide. No need for a FAA
Block 3 endorsment. I will return to service as an IA.

I will do the same thing for the Ranger and Warner powered F-24s in my shop.

'Hi Jamie,

my air/oil is going in an experimental. question, when you install
yours I assume the big vent (on top of motor mid way to front) goes
to the separator input, the output is obvious and the oil return is
obvious. What is done with the "small vent" (near the vacuum pump)
do you "t" it into the drain line as well?

thanks

Mike

'Mike,
hmmmm.....let's see. You're building a 2/3scale Mustang and you're
going to mount a vacuum pump?
