'Hi All,

For years I have been affixing an inexpensive carbon monoxide detector
to the instrument panel of my aircraft... and never saw it change color.

A few weeks ago, shortly after an extensive annual, I looked down and
saw that my detector, usually an off yellow, had turned dark green. I
rolled down the window (try that in your spam can) and shortened my
local flight. I replaced the detector ..six months out of date.. (oops)
and last week I took a test flight with a digital monoxide meter in my
lap. Problems- I saw up to 78ppm of CO on the meter. I rolled my bird
into the maintenance hanger, and today my mechanic told me today he had
located the exhaust leak.

That button had finally paid for itself. I would not have known there
was a problem till I sickened myself; there was absolutely no unusual
odor in the cockpit. The gadget is a Quantum Eye carbon monoxide
detector. It costs about $12, works for nominally 18 months (mine was at
two years when it alerted me) and weighs nothing. Carried by Aircraft
Spruce. Highly recommended.
