'Good morning everyone, several months ago there was a discussion
about shipping a Fairchild 24 overseas in a container.

Does any one remember the details, primarily will it fit? Any information
would be appreciated. Bob Haas NC 81236, which is still for

sale.

'The guy I bought my 24 from pulled a pretty good trick to get it into the back of
a standard sized tractor trailer. The shock struts were removed and replaced with
longer, temporary struts welded up from 1" angle. This raised the effective height
of the plane but reduced the track and the bugger squeaked right in.

How large are containers compared to tractor trailer van bodies? I think someone
said once that a 24 will fit into a 24' U-Haul type truck too.

'Hello folks,

A F24 will fit into a shipping container. When I bought my F24R46,
I moved it from just south of Oklahoma City to Chicago in a UHaul
truck. The landing gear was removed and a 'dolly' was put in its
place. The dolly is basicly extends the width of the fuselage frame
and mounts where on the landing gear mounts on the fuselage. It does
not extend out to the tripod area. Using this, the fuselage will fit
into the back of a UHaul truck with no problem. The fuselage does
not have to be put in at any angles.

It might be possible to put a F24 fuselage in a shipping container
without removing the landing gear, but I think it would definitely
require some kind of framework to support it at an angle, especially
if you were going to ship it in an overseas.

If I can get a digital picture of the dolly setup, I will post it
for people to see.

Cheers,

'Bob: An F-24 will fit in a 24' ocean container as long as the engine
is removed. If you're thinking about sending your airplane overseas
(I'm sure I'm not the only one who wishes you wouldn't), I can give
you some contact names and phone numbers at Danzas and Mitsui, both
of whom can arrange all the export details.

Best Wishes,
