to go. 200 HP with standard Cylinders. Price would depend on accessories and
if the mags and harness are overhauled by Savage Mag in CA. They are
somewhat high priced but they do a great job.

Where are you located? Shipping might be expensive. We are at Albion, NY.
Look at map and find Rochester / Buffalo Between them is Batavia, NY. We
are north of Batavia.

Airport is Pine Hill Airport 9G6.

12V regulator recommendations

My 12V regulator for the generator on my Warner 145 seems to be packing
it in. It's an unmarked automotive style, three terminal unit. What is
the preferred replacement unit?

'The generator is an Eclipse. Damifino the amperage. Didn't realize such
a variety of generators was used on the 145.

Flawed Warner 145 Exhaust Valve retainers

'Hi All,

A while back I wrote about my Warner 145 misfiring due to a failed
exhaust valve retainer, and inquired if anyone else had encountered this
problem. Today I received in the mail from some kind soul (no note or
return address, but thanks) a copy of Warner service letter A-1, dated
June 5, 1936, which reads:

"We have recently discovered that a few exhaust valve retainer washers,
our PN 7611, are too hard. It is possible, due to this hardness, that PN
7611 might fail, therefore, we recommend that in all engines, which have
the letter "E" following the engine number, (example SS-115E) this part
be replaced with a new part No. 7611 which is heat treated to a lesser
degree of hardness."

The letter goes on to describe a free exchange program for existing
retainers.

My engine is number SS443E.

Unfortunately, the replacement part bears the same PN as the flawed
part. Anyone know how one could tell these retainers apart--other than
finding a hard one in two pieces? And is there a source for known good
retainers available?

If we had one of each, I can do a rockwell hardeness test on them,
and duplicate as many as you like.

'It would be a necessity to know the max output amperage to properly
size a regulator/controller. The controller has an overcurrent relay
to kick the gen offline to protect it. I do not know what types of
gens were certified for use on Warners, but since many, many ,many
generators have this SAE mount/drive system(4 bolt, 7/8" maj dia
spline) over the years just about anything could have been mounted up
and the paperwork ignored.
Check the gen data plate, likely it's a type397 25 amp unit. If your
data plate missing don't know where to begin. The type 397 is
available in several amp capacities and look very much alike physical
size wise. Since you know it's an Eclipse it must have a data plate,
right?
Since it is an Eclipse most of these if not all have isolated fields
and as such it is possible to set up for type A or B circuit control.
