Subject: Virus Info *NOT A JOKE*

I have just found out that I have received a virus that is

automatically passed through e-mail address books. Since you are in my

address book, you will probably find it on your computer too. The virus is called

jdbe.exe

and is not detected by Norton or McAfee anti-virus systems. The

virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent

automatically by messenger to all entries in your address book even if you have

not sent an e-mail to your contacts. These instructions were sent to me - I

followed them, found the virus, and deleted it from my computer. Here is how

to check for the virus and how to get rid of it. PLEASE DO THIS ASAP.

1. Go to Start. then click your "find" or "search" option.

2. In the folder option, type the name"jdbgm".

3. Be sure to search your C drive and all the other drives you may have.

4. Click "find now".

5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe. DO NOT OPEN IT!!!

6. Select the file - highlight the file without opening it.

7. Delete the file. It will be sent to the recycling bin.

If you find the virus, you must contact all the people in your address book so that

they may eradicate the virus from their own address books. to do this:

1. Open a new e-mail message.

2. Click the address book icon.

3.Highlight every name and add to "BCC".

4. Copy and paste this message to e-mail.

'Jamie (and everybody else),

This 'virus' is a HOAX. The file is a legitimate Microsoft file. If
you deleted it, you may not miss it, but if you do miss it, you will
have some work to do, to restore it.

Anytime you receive a messge that says that you have a particular
virus, search the internet (I use www.google.com) for the name of the
virus, in this case "jdbe.exe" and find out whether people are
talking about it as a hoax.

This particular hoax is a few years old, and the people that start
the hoax, get hundreds of thousands of people to damage their systems
themselves. It is NOT funny, and quite sad.

There are no known viruses that McAffee and Norton (Plus a few free
ones) cannot detect. There may be a few that they have trouble
removing, but not that they cannot detect.

Everybody. Keep your anti-virus programs up to date.

'This is an OLD hoax. Go to http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/jdbgmgr.htm for the details. The reason that your virus checker doesn't find it is that it is stalled WITH and BY windows JDBGMGR.EXE, a Java Debug Manager program used by the Microsoft Java runtime engine. This file is included as part of a standard Windows installation and is not a "virus."
