I hope someone who REALLY knows, will reply to your question. If they
don't, I believe that NO shielding wire should ever be grounded on BOTH ends
of the wire. Doing so, makes the shielding an antenna for stray electrical
noise, which is exactly opposite of what you are trying to do by installing
the shielding. I hope someone who REALLY knows, will reply.

'I can't say one way or the other about grounding the leads at one or both
ends. I have seen on the Bendix SF4RN-8 (Similar to the SF6RN used on
Rangers) that the P lead can be grounded at the magneto. And some of the
magneto switches have something like a cover around the back side of the
switch so that a grounding braid could be clamped to it. The cover on the
back of the mag. switch had a large diameter that fit around the rear body
of the switch and the smaller portion was about the diameter of a dime. One
thing that I have done in recent years, is to use a Radio Frequency (RF
filter Capacitor) on the magneto P lead output connection and ground, at the
magneto.
You could try grounding both ends. If that doesn't work. Remove the one on
the magneto end, and try it again. It would be easier to cut off an
unwanted shield lead, than to add one(2).

switches. Having no knowledge of RFI but knowing that the devil is always in the details I
asked this question of several people. As many said one end only as said both ends so I
thought I'd try here.

With more research I think I have ansewered my own question. The EAA publication
Firewall Foward by Tony Bingelis says on page 189 that you ground both ends which is what I propose to do. On page 190 it says to ground both ends of the shielding of all shielded wires.

If anyone else knows of a plabe where this is written down please let me know. We are
not yet trying to eleminate RFI, just avoid it if we can.

'My fix on my Ranger was pretty simple. I had a bad mag capacitor. Listened
to the radio on the right mag - OK, listened to it on the left - lots of
noise. Remove and replace fixed it.

'Probably that was written when they didn't have a radio. Now days the recommendation is to ground only one end so you don't create radio noises.
