Trip to England

'It suddenly dawned on me that when I go to Scarborough, tomorrow, that there
might someone in that vicinity that has a Fairchild F-24 or UC 61.
I plan to be there for about a week but will not have access to a
computer after 6pm (UK time) on 9/11/03 so I will miss any replies sent
after that. What irony!! I never realised until this moment the
significance of that date. Oh well, on to Merry Old England.'

Norbert,
I have just "copy and pasted" the following three examples from the
CAA's G-INFO on-line register:

G-BCBH R 975 FAIRCHILD 24R-46A (MODIFIED)
DREAMTICKET PROMOTIONS LTD
8 SAVONA CLOSE
LONDON
SW19 4HT
UNITED KINGDOM

G-BCBL R 43-15025 FAIRCHILD 24R-46A
FRANCIS JOHN COX
GORRELL FARM
WOOLSERY
BIDEFORD
EX39 5QZ
UNITED KINGDOM

G-RGUS R 1145 FAIRCHILD 24R-46A
FENLANDS LTD
BRIDGE FARM
SNITTERBY CARR
GAINSBOROUGH
DN21 4UU
UNITED KINGDOM

The first two are owned by Fairchild Club members but rather a
distance from Scarborough. The last I heard G-RGUS was based at
Sturgate (near Gainsborough) which is about 2 Hrs drive from
Scarborough.

I have tried to see it myself and contact the owner, but neither is
easy. I am told the owner is a journalist and frequently away from
his home which is in North Lincolnshire. The aircraft is kept in an
air charter company's private hangar which is usually locked up at
weekends though you may well be lucky during the week. Suggest when
you get to Scarborough try making inquiries by contacting the
Lincoln Aero Club or Eastern Air Executive Ltd., both of which are
based at Sturgate.

I am told there is an Argus frame awaiting restoration at the
Elvington Air Museum, just south of York. Have not checked that
out, but Elvington is worth a visit anyway.

Until recently, we had two more in the country. One was a Argus
Mark II but re-engined with a Ranger painted in USAAF markings but
now residing in Holland. The other was a post-war R46, but burnt
out in a hangar fire (suspected arson!) earlier this year.
Hope this helps.
Tony Broadhurst
Grimsby, Lincolnshire.'

I just , recently, went to a Midwest Antique Airpland Club fly-in where
there were at least six F-24's. I have one with a Ranger and one with a
Jacobs.
If I can get my friends to drive me I might get so see at least one of
them.
Thanks again.
