propeller torque values

'Hi,
I recently flew out my 24R46 from New Jersey to Phoenix. What an
adventure! Anyway, I'm concerned about the dry air here loosening up
the wood, including the propeller. But I can't find the hub torque
values anywhere. Does anyone know what they might be?

'Wallace,
Mike directed you to Sensenich. Also if you plan on basing the aircraft for
a long period, you will end up with loose hinges, esp in the tail group. If
you plan on returning to wetter climate, you may want to leave it alone,
crushing will occur coming back.

'Torgueing to the low end value might be a good idea. Dick Rutan flew a Long Ez from a wet location to a dry. He stayed long enough that the prop hub dried out. He flew after it dried and the prop came off. Obviously, he is a skilled pilot as he is still with us.
When you arrive at your new wet location, you can always back off the torque without damage as it takes a while for the prop to absorb moisture. Just don't forget to torque it correctly before the next flight. It is worthwhile to tag the prop and the throttle with a reminder.
Always remember that wood props are driven by friction and not by prop lugs or anything else. Spending 30 minutes checking the torque is a life saver.
By the way, The year Dick lost the prop, the Emergency Aircraft Repair went around and checked the torque of all the Vari-Ezes and Long Ezs at Oshkosh. Better than half of over 100 planes were not torqued correctly and the safety wiring on many was bad.
