'Norb,

The condensor looking devices are Filters. You may have on on each
mag. Make sure the connections are tight and clean. Perform a Mag
check grouding. Filters should be in line with the P lead. If they
are old, you may want to purchase some new ones.

Aircraft Spruce has them: 07-00713 MAGNETO FILTER FAA PMA APPRVD
$42.850

Your Mag leads should also be wraped in wire braid sheilding.
Aircraft spruce has that also.

Shutting the Batt Master switch will only partily shut down your
charging system, batt side. The Gen is still producing current, which
in turn will create a elec field which can bleed over to radios. Get
with a radio shop to attack that problem, a few questions and answers
should be in order. If I remember correctly, the Filter will be
inline with the Field wire.

'start by turning a mag off --if the noise continues turn the other mag off.
switch back and forth. if noise is from one mag check all the mag leads and
how they are terminated at the mag and at each plug. to eliminate the
generator or the alternator you should be able to switch off the field.
the p lead filters should be checked for proper grounding and the p lead
should also have a solid shield ground. you should be able to isolate the
source if you follow this procedure. I have been able to isolate many noise
problems in this manner, alternator noise can cause problems with adf
receivers and there is where you need one of those high current condensers
in series with the alternator output lead. you might also check to see if
the straps are around the engine mount and that there is a good copper lead
from the main ground to the engine. drop me a line if you have uncovered
