I just got off the phone with Desser Tires (Aero Classic). They are
producing the old style Diamond Pattern and coming out with a new
tire that is mix of old and new. The new one is straight center rib
with diamond on the outer tread area. The problem is the demand for
6.50 X 10 is low. Plenty of orders for 7.50 X 10. You can view the
patterns in our "Files" section on this site. I put a .jpg file out
there which is a capture off of there web site. Or you can go to
there site (http://www.desser.com)
In order for them to produce the tooling for the Aero Classic
(Diamond) or the NEW Aero Classic Premium (Rib & Diamond mix) they
will need at least a firm order of at least 100 sets. The cost will
not be cheap, higher than $100.00 per item, which is what I'm paying
now for a standard rib. They would also have to go thru the FAA/PMA
approval process.
The other direction is this, easier and $$ savings for all in the
long run. They can make the molds for the Aero Classic Diamond for
RETREADS only. This eliminates the higher tooling costs and FAA/PMA
paperwork. Keep in mind 90% of the Commercial Aviation utilize
Retreads certified to 250 mph. I would not have a problem running the
Diamond Retreads on my F-24.
In addition, I spoke to them about Tail Wheel tires and tubes. They
are considering making molds for the 10.00 SC tire. They currently
have the Rib Oval tire. They have also shorted the valve stem on the
tube by 3/8 of inch to help out the bend over problem when running
with covers and also eliminated the striking on the fork.
So if any of you are interested purchasing new tires with the old
Diamond Pattern (either new or retread) or the new Rib/Diamond
pattern, let them know. Also let them know if you would be interested
in the 10.00" SC tail wheel tire. Contact them via phone 1-800-247-
8473 or send email sales@desser.com. They will be creating a customer
interest list. They will not do anything for us 6.50 X 10 users
unless they here from us.
Sincerely,
