'I just came from a local shop who overhauls a lot of Cont., Lyc. and
Pratt radials and asked him about the Jasco alternator. He
immediately took me to a Cont. 220 with three hours on it that was
disassembled for a prop strike and put a magetic field guage to the
generator drive and it was strong enough for a washer to attach
itself to it. That would be a reason for the rear main bearing
failures in Continentals. He then showed me a Pratt and it was not as
bad but the washer did try to stick. He feels that is the reason for
blower bearing failures in Pratts. Anything in that sphere will
eventually become magnetized. The parts might last a long time before
any failure is noted, and unless you have taken alot of them apart,
it would be hard to point to what actually caused the problem to
start with As far as a Ranger goes, it will magnetize the gears in
thr rear case, but engine failure from the Jasco is not probable.'
