Pardon me for hijacking this thread slightly, but I heard there were records somewhere identifying which F-24’s, etc. were impressed during WWII for military service – coast watching, etc. I’d like to find out if my F-24W40A was one of those. I have all the records (originals, not copies) from the day it left the factory (22 July 1940) to the present, but info from the war years seems conspicuously absent. Could anyone direct me to something that might show where my airplane was during WWII. Thanks.

I am not sure if I suggested this but have you tried that Fairchild Museum and Hagerstown Maryland they might have better records

'To Tony (Lowe),I have looked at what I have on the impressed 24W-40s and drawn a blank.  Two were definitely impressed for use by the USAAF, but c/n 136 was not one of those.It is reported in various publications that 13 Model 24W-40s were impressed by the U.S. Navy as GK-1 with Bu Nos. 7032/7034, 09787/0788 and 09790/09797.
It is very possible c/n 136 was one of those drafted into to naval use, however many of active pilots would have been serving during W.W.2 - that plus fuel rationing would, I expect, have meant very little private flying would be going on.
Unfortunately I do not have the appropriate U.S. Navy individual aircraft record cards and I have no idea whether each aircraft is identified by its c/no or previous registration.
I have no experience of obtaining naval aircraft records.
