Jasco Alternators, a minute side benefit

'The Jasco installation requires you to mount fresh air duct to the
alternator, 2" dia. I believe. If a fellow doesn't skimp here and
mounts this to take in maximum ram air there will be gobs of air
available. Now 99% of the time this alternator wil be doodling along
at
say 15 amp output, hardly enough to warm it up, so this air shouldn't
see a terrific heat gain from the alternator so there is a nice
abundant amount of cool airblast all about the base and directed at
the
accessory case. On a Wright this Alt is smack between the mags and we
baffled the fwd end of alt to direct the air to the sides at both
mags.
It works well enough that blast tubes to mags are not needed. This
doesn't help a Ranger but can be capitalized upon with most radial
setups. It takes what could be a drag inducing impediment and turns
it
into a wash situation or a gain as it seems to cool the mags way
better
than a puny 5/8" blast tube aimed somewhere close to the mag.
Something to keep in mind when planning the installation.
