Floor mount radio & transponder rack

Post by Steve Link »

' At this point my PT-23 has no installed radio or transponder, the previous owner used a handheld. I would like to install a good radio and transponder and was thinking of doing like I've seen in a few others.....mounting them in a pedestal rack mounted to the floor. I kind of like that type mount though I have seen them mounted on the sidewalls. As yet I have not found any premade racks like that. Any one know where I might look? I do not have access to a shear and break like I used to or I might try making one myself. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

'Steve,Having purchased to PTs where the rebuilder mounted the radio on the side and then moved them to the center, I suggest mounting between the knees is the preferred answer.  The best mount I have seen was at Oshkosh last summer by a guy who had a PT-26 that won an award in the Antique and Classic section (not warbirds).  Of course I don’t know his name of have a contact, but his mount left room for your feet around the stick and peddles.  It was a simple design and well executed for the transponder and radio.  As for radios, I highly recommend the Garmin GTR 200.  It has great reception, a flip flop, and the ability to listen to the standby (when you try to get the ATIS while talking to “CENTER”).  Plus, it includes a great built in voice activated intercom.   Good lick.Richard Smith  From: fairchildclub@yahoogroups.com [mailto:fairchildclub@yahoogroups.com]

' This Yahoo site is so screwed up. I just tried to make a new album called PT-19/23/26 Radio Installations.....
The pix would finally post but it seems to put them wherever it wants and turned one 90 degrees every time I put it in. Anyway, I think everyone can see them at least....

' Richard, that radio looks great but it says in the description on Spruce site "This is for experimental aircraft use only."! I love the compact style and all the features! The GTR 225 VHF COM looks like what I might need for my application.
