Fairchild 24 Vacuum Pump HELP
'Ok I am trying to resolve a continuing problem with oil on the belly of my F-24. Your help is greatly appreciated. Before I wrote to this forum asking about a large amount of oil coming out of the crankcase breather and going all over the belly. Since then I have sent the cylinders out to Harrison were they chromed (NUChrome) them back to standard, New Pistons and Rings. Just flew it tonight for the first time. Flew 25 minuets, landed and checked for leaks. Still have a good amount of oil coming out of the breather and on the belly. This may be the fact the cylinders are not broken in or something else. My question to the group is who has a wet vacuum pump (pesco) setup on their 24? If you do where do you have the oil return line coming from the air/oil separator return to the engine or oil tank? Any ideas? JON'

Re: Fairchild 24 Vacuum Pump HELP
'Jon, I have two air/oil separators One for the Engine and one for the wet pump, the return lines for both are routed back to the top of the oil tank. I fabricated an aluminum tubing with two addition branches of small tubing welded to it. also the same for the over board breather line. The plumping is very creative becase of the lack of space. It does and has worked good for me.

'My Ranger engine in the PT-19 has a generator mounted on the upper rear
case. There is no oil seal in the adaptor plate on the generator pad nor on
the generator shaft. I am experiencing oil seeping out of the hole in the
bottom of the generator near where it mounts to the engine. Has anyone else
experienced this and have you found a cause or cure? I will appreciate any
info or suggestions.

Re: Ranger engine with Generator
'I have experienced such leakage, with original fiber-washer as oil catcher, and ZZ ball front bearing, replacing this bearing with rubber sealed lifelong gresed bearing.
But, still having leakage after some hours flight!
I ever tested, the fitting of a hose to the evacuation hole in order to collect oil drip and looking at the oil "consumption" from this leakage! This looks not to change things a lot anyway!
will be glad to ear of other solutions!

Re: Ranger engine with Generator
'Airy, thanks for your report. Hopefully someone has figured out how to
solve this. I have also considered tapping the hole in the bottom of the
generator and attaching a fitting with a hose out the bottom such as a
breather hose. The oil is going to get to the belly of the plane anyway,
but this would keep it off the back of the engine.
We welcome anyone's thought and info,
