HELP, PT-19 brake conundrum.. Pictures.
'We are in dire need of some help with a problem on my friends PT-19. Simply put, when you apply either left or right brake, the opposite brake is also being applied. The aircraft has no differential braking. Everyone I have spoken to so far thinks I am crazy but I assure you, both left and right maser cylinders are being actuated with the pressing of any single brake pedal in the airplane.
I think I have isolated the problem to an improperly installed parking brake cross tube assembly in the brake assembly section. This tube always moves when any brake is pressed and I think it should only move when the parking brake handle is pulled. Here are some pics.

These arrows point to the mechanism that actuates the parking brake. Unfortunately every time one brake is applied it is moving when it should stay stationary. I have a feeling that the the metal tabs that are sticking up into the channel should actually be behind the channel which would allow the brakes to operate independently instead of in tandem. I cannot however be sure of just how each side should be placed.
If anyone has any information about this it would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps someone is in the process of working on one of these aircraft and could either take pictures or just describe where these tabs should be placed. It would be GREATLY appreciated. 'The best way to disconnect the parking brake from the system is to remove the cross tie bar. Yes, if this is done, the problem goes away.

'My PT has the front floorboards removed so I took a photo of the link you are concerned with. It has been added to the photo album N69167.
The tab is shown behind the arm with the U-shaped channel, as others have suggested. Hope this helps. The tab is behind the arm on both sides.

'I took pictures this AM as well. Just uploaded them to the fairchildclub
yahoo site, folder named Brake Pictures. You'll see, as Charles also noted,
the tab behind the bellcrank on both sides.
