Springs for PT main gear.

Post by hotfoot49 »

'I was talking with Joe Denest tonight and he is looking into getting the PT main gear springs made. Walt Hubert had some made several years ago when he was rebuilding his PT-26. He donated the extras to the Club. John Berednt was able to sell all of them in a years time. These PT's are over 65 years old now and the springs are getting weak. If you have a low looking strut ,you might have a broken spring.

The spring is used to take the movement while on the ground. The fluid takes the landing loads. The F24 strut is the same except that the strut is smaller and a little different design. They both give the planes a nice soft landing.

Another thing I mentined to Joe was that some of you are looking for F-24 tail wheel boots. He has a guy by him that can make them if he has a old one to use for a pattern. You can contact Joe at 610-399-7028. He's in West Chester, PA.

One last thing! I have the next FAIRCHILD FLYER at the printers. I have lots of pictures this in this one. I hope to do another one the End of December because I didn't have room for all the pictures. There were 10 Fairchilds at Oshkosh and 18 at the AAA Fly-In at Blakesburg.Doing a December issue will let me get caught back up and on schedule again. It has been a busy summer.

Keep 'Em Flying!
