even if I am in France... I know personnaly one swift owner...having not en original engine.... too much upgraded! and with efis panel...

but, when speaking about his plane, he doesn't refers as a "temco swift"... he is just calling it a "swift-type" aircraft!

Airy, Don't ever express your opinions about engine conversions for antique aircraft to the Globe or Temco Swift collectors. They are liable to hurt you.

'Can't help but weigh in on this. Years ago I was fortunate enough to own a E-17B Staggerwing, original engine L-5 Jake, 285HP. Before I got it a conversion to a Lyc R680-13 (300 HP) took place. The L-5 was a terrible engine.The Lyc made the a/c perform close to normal, didn't look too much different from original. Could have gone to L-6 Jake as it was on the TC, but wasn't sure of the reliability of that engine (feel better on that issue today). Anyway, the airplane was flying, and well, with a non-original engine. If an airframe could be returned to original (assuming the engine is still supportable), then I don't see it as a big issue. You won't get an OSH award, but so what?

As a F-24G owner now, having just come off an overhaul of the 145 Warner,I really wonder how that mill will be supportable at all for long. It seems I may have located some of the last parts available for them anywhere, as in pistons and heads. Then what? Pistons you can have made, but after looking into the liability issues associated with "owner supplied parts", I decided to stay with the search for Warner pistons. Heads? Forget it.

That Jake powered plane on the club web site looks pretty good!

'Not true Sir. I own one with a Lyc IO-360 and many Swifts have been updated with larger engines. The only ones that we would not like to be re-engined are the GC1-A's with the C-85 but few of those are still around. Fortunately, there are far too many airframes to modify with big engines rather than using an original C-85 powered airframe.

'Perhaps you need to talk with other Swift owners rather than just one. We have had some fine Swifts go to Europe when the Euro was high, but I know of none that I would not want to call a "Swift" (Globe or Temco).
