source for Fafnir KF4-A airframe bearings

Post by shergei2001 »

'Does anyone know of a source for Fafnir KF4-A bearings used on control surfaces on PTs? They seem to be unavailable. While I plan to clean/repack most, there will likely some that should be replaced.
Thanks,
Pete Crawford'

'Frank,
Thanks a lot! That looks worth checking out. The only source I have found so far is www.locateballbearings.com and they want $99 each. Parts are in the UK of all places.

'Pete,Try MSC industrial Supply, if they don't have it they can usually get it. Their paper catalog is larger than most city phone books, @ 4" thick. You can find them online, great people to deal with.

'Could these bearings be the same as those used on the F24G? If so,
Univair has them but they are listed in the Stinson parts section...they cost
about $19.00 each...when I bought mine a few years ago.

'Richard,
I looked in the Univair catalog and found Stinson bearings but can't tell if they are the same ones. I'll have to get some dimensions from them.
Thanks,

'A possible source for this bearing is a company, Banaire in Banning, California. They specialize in the AT-6 and BT-13 parts. They sell aircraft bearings applicable to these and other airplanes. They have a chart with photos, part numbers and bearing dimensions. It is listed in the, Aviation Surplus listing. There is a bearing listed, KP-4. Knowing how part numbers get changed from time to time possibly this could work. Hope this helps.
