Re: Ed Clayman's need for F-24R documentation

'Jamie:

Thank you. While my photo docs are only shy a photo of the brake side of the wheel at lower strut, I appreciate the additional photos of 887. Of specific note, I found the side view of the three F24 baseline configurations to be humorous in that exceptions to documentation often create voids from which contradictions occur with little to no explanation. This is true of many mule aircraft in military aviation where a single airframe is used over and over in evolution from type a through X to provide upgradability concept short cuts to assure there are few missed issues with respect to anything poorly documented in manufacturing and the necessary changes to accommodate inter-op and rev implementations.

Just last week I was in a conversation with someone relative to a second and possibly a third inline cowl. We had read reference to Argus and Ranger with more than subtle differentials stating there was a difference in fore-to-aft length. The EDO mounted version of the 24R had the shape as described by a third party...a shorter and yet differentiated firewall end shape.

For my general purposes with respect to 887 it matters not. However I will place the side view panel you sent in our documentation provided to customers buying the Effinger Plans and our laser cut wood packs. This to support that near silent minority...aware of that cowl shape difference. This to ease their task of having to convince a judge of the accuracy of the shape difference. Yes, it gets that sticky. Thanks again! Its the little things that really matter sometimes.

Out of what you sent I was surprised to not find a front, side, rear, and bottom up line art accompanying the top down view you sent.

Another strong element of what you sent was one of the pdf's stating the presence of the skylight in the RAF exported versions...which is exactly what I have to replicate. I assume the statement would appear eventually so I would not have to be inventive with my docs... I feared would have to get the owners of 887 to write a short fuselage differential declaration for me to list as an exception to what I had been able to find. This is ok if I have my documentation binder approved by an FAI judge or AMA Scale Contest Board Representative over his signature. Something that often tends to bug judges as they tend to only believe what they can put their hands on in the way of a line art drawing... which eludes me for the present with respect to 887's configuration.

I appreciate your assistance and welcome others to contribute to support my need for a decent set of line art technical drawings. With those and a decent photo of the brakes and back side of the wheel at the lower strut axle I should be in decent shape to continue.

Folks you have no idea how long these things can take. For example it took 10 years to conclude my NAA NA300 YOV-10D/NOGS/NOS documentation. When I began my search for documentation in support of a specific photograph of an OV-10 version...I had no idea I was looking for something only four people knew existed. In fact, they had virtually overlooked the airframe rev in their records. Yes, I uncovered an obscurely documented or under documented missing link in the North American OV-10 Bronco product family. When I started looking for documentation in 1996, I had never considered myself having any OCD tendencies. Here, thirteen years downstream, I look at over 40 pounds of documentation which had been overlooked except for the four people I came to know in last three years... :) There were so many miscues and incorrect photographs which led me and everyone else on faux paths that had to be proved incorrect with photographic facts.

To conclude my short story on the OV-10...I found two S-11's at the Navy's China Lake weapons testing and eval facility with archived hard copy photographs of the exact colors on the original mule which contradicted the incorrect color correction of an in flight photo...or so I thought until conducting a 1:1 interview with the NAA project manager during the shooting of my daughter's film..."One Rough Ride...The Story Of The OV-10 Bronco".

My daughter is a television and film producer who became so interested in my search for what apparently didn't exist that she produced a documentary film on the People, Plane, and Mission of the OV-10 Bronco. I finally have everything required for the Bronco...and with a little more, everything for the Fairchild F-24R. :)

Ed,

See attached. Let me know if you need anything else. Let me know if the attachments come through.

I maintain the FC CD ROM with all the data, glad to share.

Your correct, no attach to the site. I cc'c the site to let them know you have been helped.

Well, I see that attachments are not permitted to replies to this groups forum. So, if anyone can provide a 1/24th to 1/48th line art multiple view drawing for me to use with my F-24R/UC-61 it will have to be sent as an attachment to wmclayman@comcast.net .

Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.
