Post by michaelmps »

has the 200 hp 440. The 3 manuals he has for the pland have no info
on how to do this. What manual is available or can anyone scan the
info??

'It's 25 degrees BTC. You can use #6 for BTC. Line up
the white, beveled mag gear with the pointer in the
window, stab the mag & check with timer. Adjustment
made by rotating the rubber coupler, being careful not
to turn the mag gear when re stabbing. Chances are you
won't be able to hit 25 exactly. Just get as close as
possible. Any other questions, let me know.

'You need the Ranger overhaul manual for the information.  You will not find it in the AAF manuals.

'I centered both mag indexs prior to pulling the mags and did not move the prop . After mag overhaul, I restabbed and it worked well for the right but not Quite correct with the left. I would like to find out how to verify the engine is at 25 degress BTDC and try and stab the left mag again. I do not see any Index marks on the Crank. I guess thats what I am asking. Aside from the index mark on the mags. How can I verify 25 BTDC.

'To verify the 25 deg. BTDC you'll either need a timing indicator disk or a Time Rite. In both cases you'll reference off Top Dead Center(number 1 compression stroke).

Here's a good generic "how to time mags" guide.

www.avweb.com/news/maint/184370-1.html

Also, the procedure is shown in both the Ranger and Military overhaul manuals(at least the copies I've got).Curt Kinchenptcurt@msn.com
