Vertical Stab

Post by ROBERT COON »

'We're in the finishing processes of scratch building our vertical stab and have run into two schools of thought regarding finishes. One is to varnish and paint over the plywood; two is to cover over the plywood with fabric (polyfibre). I would prefer the latter but would wonder about the airfoil spine that runs the whole length of the vertical. Does that get covered, as well. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

'I am working on a vertical stab. and center section for a PT-19.

I used two part epoxy varnish on the new wood, then covered with ceconite.

Use the 1.7 oz ( non-certified ). It is legal for covering wood, and works some easier than the 2.8 and 3.7.

Have fun,

John
