'Dan: Thank you for your message. I have opened some Albums with photos but need to explain the Yahoo settings. The decision to allow attachments to incoming messages is up to you as the Group Owner. You can select OK or No. Go to Management at the home page and then to Group Settings. Click on Edit to change Posting and Archives. You will see a choice there for Distribute or Remove.

The choice is yours. Many group owners check Remove in the fear that a lot of spam will be downloaded. I think this is primarily the open to the public groups. I run 54 aviation groups and have never had any trouble in this regard since I changed all of them to membership approval required. Incidentally I have one group that should be of interest to you and/or the members:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairchildPT19and26

When the group setting is for Distribute you can attach a photo to a message and it will go to every member that has their personal setting for Individual. If they do not want to get the attachments they can select Daily Digest and they are automatically removed by Yahoo. The advantage is that the members get the photos without any effort, the disadvantage is that they are not saved/archived. The only way to save a photo in these groups now is to post them in albums in Photos. Some years back Yahoo did save all of them but they no longer do that. If the photos are in the Photos section the members have to go to that and scan through the albums to see what is new and many do not want to be bothered with the extra work.

'Hi William,

Thanks for the information. I don't remember a choice to include
attachments when we set up this group five years ago, and I wasn't aware
that we now can if we so choose.

Personally, I think being able to include a photo along with a posting
would be most valuable. A picture is often worth many words, and having
the picture along with the description reduces confusion.

In the past there was some concern over the possibility of viruses in
attachments, but I doubt anyone who uses the internet regularly on a PC
now is without anti-virus software. [If you are, you are already dead meat]

I'd like to hear from other members of the group on the issue of
including photos and other attachments.

I am leaving for a two week vacation and am turning over moderator
duties to Jamie Treat while I am away. When I return we can make a final
decision. I hope to have some internet access, but it will be irregular.

Till then, keep 'em flying....
