Warner oil pump

'Any one know which port on a warner oil pump is the inlet and which is
the outlet?

looking from the rear of the engine both ports are on the bottom, one
at the left and one at the right. which is the inlet?'

I have studied the manuals at great lenght, but there is no mention of
position of the lines, the manual states in several places "inlet"
and "outlet" lines, but doesn't tell the location of the conection.

can anyone take a picture of the rear accessory section of their
warner 165 showing the oil lines, and send it to barb-tom(at)
whidbey.net

'I'm not sure if my installation is correct but it has been working for years.

The inlet line is on the right side of the pump looking at it from the rear.
The line from there goes to the oil tank The line on the left has the return
line from the bottom sumps on the lower rocker box covers.

When you include the sump line from the lower rocker boxes, there are
3 lines. 2 go to the oil tank, one to the top, and one to the bottom
of the tank, which fitting on the oil pump hooks to the bottom of the
tank?'

'The connection on the right side of the oil pump goes to the bottom of the
tank. The other line ( a much smaller one) is a breather line from the
crankcase and goes to the top of the oil tank as does the larger line from the
sump. The third fitting on the oil pump is on the right side of the pump and is
an oil pressure line ftting.

At least that is the way mine is set up. I have replaced the oil pump and
this is the way the lines were when I removed them. As I said before, this
arrangement has worked for several years on my 165-hp Warner.

Earl, I have 3, 3/4" fittings on my pump. and 1, 1/4" oil pressure
tap that goes to the gauge. The vent line is a 3/8" hose that
connects the oil tank vent to the accessory case vent.

I wonder if there are 2 or more types of oil pumps?

I removed my pump and determined the rotation of the drive, then fed
it oil to see which way it pumps, I think I have it connected
correctly. We will see when I start it up.

'My Fairchild is in a hangar 150 miles from Fresno, where I live, so I won't
be able to look at it right away. But now that you mentioned a third 3/4
fitting, there is a fitting on the left side where the pressure control ball
hides. But, I would think that this connection would not be open, even on a new
or rebuilt pump.

There are more the one model of this pump and it is imperative that you get
the proper gasket for the one you have. I put mine back on the accessory
case one time and found out I had no oil pressure when I started the engine.
The gasket I used was for a different pump and blocked two of the oil passages
within the pump.
