Restoration advice
'Hello group! My wife and I are currently restoring 2 Model 24s, first
serial W46-182, N81282, and a UC-61A, W41A-373. The UC served at
Wright Field from February 1943 until April 1945. We intend to restore
this airplane to its wartime appearance
Both fuselages are ready for bead blast and paint, and we were
wondering if anyone in the group could provide the finish
specifications for the UC-61. We also need guidance on the interior
appearance, i.e. the fabrics and colors used, stenciling and so forth.

'The only help that I can be is I can send you a small piece of original interior fabric from the arm rest. It of Olive Drab, with a weave pattern that I believe would be difficult to duplicate. Where else in the cabin would it have been used, is your guess.

I would very much appreciate the swatch! Our airplane has none of the original interior materials or paint left. Your sample would enable me to at least come as close as modern suppies will allow. When the airplane was sold to Pure Oil in 1945, they completely re-did the interior, including fairing over the skylight, then there is evidence of at least one other re-upholster job.

salmon color weave material. To get some made, we
would need at least 100 yards on the order and a cost
of $25.00-30.00 estimate per yard was beyond our
scope.
My partner Bob and I tried our best to find anything
close. We contacted other UC-61 owners all over the
world and nobody has an original interior, except
Leeroy Wulner in Iowa. He has a sister ship to our
UC-61K disassembled in his garage. I will forward some
pictures that Leroy sent to me. We chose Avex-Interior
color Sandlewood Headliner material for our
restoration. My partner Bob hand made the headliner
and interior patterns and we may be able to assist
anyone in the group with questions.

T.O. AN 01-115CA-1 and -2. I have nearby a restoration project of
UC-61A # 430. On the wings there is still the war time fabric and
paint including star. I would be able to provide paint samples if you
wish.
On the front seats there is still the , what we believe, original
salmson colored fabric. I can provide a few pictures of stencelling as
well.

We would be thrilled with any pictures you could provide for us! Do you know how the fuselage tubing was painted? We believe that the frame is zinc chromate, but are unsure what was applied to the visible structure in the cockpit.

Restoration advice
'Great to learn that more F24 will be fling soon-! WE have any members in the
UK-? I will be over there in March and should like to catch with someone
with common interests and see how the Brits do it-?
N81229 is getting an instrument face lift and have found an abundance of
previously completed (work-?) that was less than desirable or acceptable to
FAR. Looks like this A/C will be in REAL airworthy condition for the first
time in numerous years although it has been flying all that time-!
