'Flew the PT-19 to a flyin last week. Central Texas flyin in Temple.
Lots of war birds. I wanted to fly in the demonstration but upon
tying the plane down some "gentlemen" started asking questions. do
you have your Registration and airworthiness certificate? (Yes) Do
you have proof of your last annual (no, never carry my logbooks). How
about a notarized letter stating the date of the last annual? (no
again). Excuse me, by the way Who are you? The FAA. OH, do you have
any proof, say ID, perhaps notarized. i asked?
Any way, first time ramp checked in 40 years. Didn't get to fly due
to no proof of annual (apparently required by the airshow officials.
Wish they would have told me the day before when I CALLED!). No big
deal, didn't have to burn my gas. Sat and watched a good show.
But before the FAA left he pointed out that I didn't have a Data
plate. I asked him if he was talking about the DEA plate, the
fireproof data plate that resides on the entry side of the airplane
usually in the rear under the stabilizer, in the case of the PT-19.
Darn tooting, there wasn't one there. God forbid i try to haul 15
tons of dope across the boarder. How could anyone catch me traveling
at 95 MPH? Can the apache hover that slow?
Any way the point of this post, does anyone know where I can get a
authentic Fairchild data plate that I can have marked and affixed to
the airplane?
Thanks.

'Sorry Tom, I don't recall ever coming across that situation before, To the
best of my knowledge there is no such data plate but if there is I am sure
that someone in the club will be aware of same. When you find out please
let me know so that I can update my memory accordingly, Joe

'Tom:
ID? If you only need the external ID plate, it doesnt need to be an
official data plate; according to FAR 45.11(d), it only requires
model and serial number:
