Ranger 200hp approval
'I desperatly need help. We have just finished a complete restoration
an a F24 and had the 175 Ranger upgraded to a 200hp. The faa will not
approve it since we can not show them that the military version is the
same as the civilian version, which is impossible. If I could come up
with just one copy of a 337 (more would be even better) for the engine
upgrade, I would deeply appreciate it. Hoping for some help. Thank

See attached FAA 337 form for the Ranger 200 conversion on a F-24.
The one I attached is good for approved engineering due to the moratorium
per FAA.
This should be the only one you need, just attach to your FAA 337 as
approved data.

'There is no "military" or "civilian" version of the
Ranger engine. All models were first certificated by
the CAA then the engines were sold to the military.
ATC 216 is the type certificate data sheet for the
Ranger 6-440 models. What model is your F-24? If it
is an R-46, you should reidentify it as an F24R46A
which was approved with the 200hp engine. A 337
alteration listing the change along with a reissued
airworthiness certificate identifying it as such and
the same for your registration should be done. You
should also have a 337 alteration approval changing
your 175 to 200hp.

'Was this really called for? The problem is with
owners who do not research and document the paperwork
prior to contacting FAA. Then it helps when you
contact an ASI prior to doing anything and outlining
what you want to accomplish. Once you do that,
believe it or not, they are very helpful.

'"Why" did you tell them-? What they don't know WILL not hurt them-! Most ASI
Airworthiness Inspectors do NOT know much about Antique airplanes-!

If you and the FAA need more information, there is the Ranger SB 111
"Inter-conversion of Ranger 6-440C Series Engines"
In there is a cross refence list with the civilan and military
designations of the engine and other usefull stuff. You will find the
SB 111 on the Fairchild Club CD-Rom.
