'David: I would have chosen new master cyls rather than sleeving originals but it seemed to me to be more work to figure out the different mounting and the geometry of the pedal movement to piston movement required if one were to install new master cyls. Also, axle has to be pressed out 0.125" to accomadate the Cleveland wheels, and give adaquate threads for the retaining nut. Rotate axle 90 degrees and drill another hole for the retaining bolt. For the PT19 masters with no reservoir, I considered casting new units and boring to 3/4 " diameter, but had several cylinders to work with. Maybe next time......Bill Spriggs

Was the motive to retain the original but modified master cyls just for some in
cabin authenticity? They're pretty much out of sight and $150 would get you a
new set anyway.

Hello Dick & David: I have converted 3 Fairchilds to C-310 Cleveland brakes and have sleeved the Fairchild Master Cylinders down to 3/4 diameter for the higher pressure and lower volumn required by the Clevelands. A 1" diameter drill rod fits perfectly into the bore of the Fairchild Master Cylinder and can be bored to 5/8 or 3/4 diameter and then you can use automotive cups against a new piston using o-rings for sealing. Don't forget to drill the holes down thru the filler in the reservoir or the fluid cannot return from calipers. Hope this helps.........................Bill Spriggs N77698 F24R46

'Giday, Bill and thanks for your input on the Cleveland switch. If you have a moment,
would you be kind enough to detail the procedure to install the 310 wheels and your
recommended brake package? No big deal, but I was not aware
that the axle had to be pressed out 0.125. Any other steps need to be done? Do
you go with the 210 brakes or mod the 310's? I haven't removed my Hayes wheels
yet and therefore have not exposed the axles. Thanks..

'David: I believe the part number for the Cessna Conversion Kit for the 310 is 199-64. This will fit the Fairchild axle if axle is pushed out about 1/8". The kit includes new wheels, so the kit is just bolted on. I highly recommend sleeving the master cyls. to 3/4" diameter and then regular hydraulic fluid can be used using auto cups next to piston.
