Thanks for that. I have found mine tends to kick back if started in
the advanced postion. I have had some good stuff from Russ Williams
and I had a good day yesterday when it started fine all day.
Our field is 550ft and is in England, so the weather can be anything
from cold day in Nevada to warm day in Minnesota! In summer we can
get 85F and winter is not so much cold as damp or damp and cold but
rarely what you would call COLD.
Cold start is usually a pump on the throttle, four on the primer and
a couple as it turns with the left mag retarded about 'that' much.
After a short taxi to the pumps it will start easily with small pump
on the throttle, again left mag retarded a bit. The problems have
come if it has had a short flight and about a coffee and a half break
before starting again (20 mins to 1 hour). Then it seems to have a
mind of its own. I am pretty sure it is not a mag problem as it is
only evident when it is starting, and i think the problems are really
only me getting to know it.
Yesterday I primed less and was far more careful with the retard.
This I set so that it was just on the edge of kicking back. It also
started really easily after a 45 min flight and about a ten minute
break. no prime, just set the throttle, retard and go.
When it is being a beast everything from switching both mags when it
is spinning to swearing and more prime, pull the mixture or just ask
her nicely. All have worked.
Tomorrow is Saturday and the rumour is that the weather may be OK so
I will fly a little and play with it to see if I can perfect my
technique.
When it starts it is a very nice motor and smooth as you like.
Thanks for your interest and notes,
