'Fairchilders:
It was wonderful to meet friends, old and new, at the Fairchild Reunion
this weekend. Thanks to Mike & Penny for doing a great job hosting the
event. The weather was fine all weekend at Coldwater, although precip
in the surrounding area may have reduced attendance (but Jim & Ed flew
up Sunday morning after driving in on Saturday).
Norb McLuckie was the advance scout and arrived Thursday. Ed Wegner
ferried John Berendt and Charlie Bell down from Wisconsin. Ed Escallon
was hopping PT rides Saturday afternoon until dinner time. A number of
Fairchilders whose planes arent currently flying drove in for
inspiration and passersby dropped in to see what all the fuss was
about. Judd brought a test sample of a wing spar splice he needs to
get his 24 flying again. Penny prepared a hot hangar lunch for all on
Saturday and ensured we stayed hydrated all weekend. Mike gave tours
of his hangar workshop where he rebuilds PT woodwork. Robin & Ted
arrived via PT-23 to ensure that there was at least one radial engine
present. Bob & Bill flew Bill's beautiful PT up from Middletown just
before its first annual since restoration. We went out for a group
dinner at a Chinese restaurant on Saturday night. Sunday morning saw a
flight of three PTs doing flybys before people left for home.
Looking forward to the next Reunion.

Its usually an annual event. This year Mike Kelly volunteered to host> Is this an annual event at Coldwater-?

'Thanks for the update Dan. Maybe we should host one sometime at Clow? What do you think? Oh, and thanks for the tailwheel. Got to the airport a bit late this morning. Talk with you soon. Bob

Re: Fairchild Reunion recap
'Bob:
prices keep going up it may be the only way I get to it.
Most people seem to prefer to stay at motels: is there a reasonable
place nearby? We need adequate ground transport to shuttle people
between the field, motel(s), and dinner. The restaurant on field
will be convenient for breakfast and/or lunch and theres plenty of
tiedown space.
I dont know if Clows location under the class B and within the mode C
veil would dissuade some people or not. It shouldnt be a factor, but
you never know.
I would be willing to help out but I dont want to spearhead the
effort. I think if you and/or Jim want to drive this, you should
contact John Berendt and place a bid for next year. I would like to
see more people and planes attend and I would be willing to help
promote it among club members via e-mail, phone, or mail. Im
disappointed that we had fewer than 10 aircraft turn out for
Coldwater this year in spite of reasonably good weather. Perhaps
there are other flying activities we could arrange to make it more
attractive.
intended to drop by for weeks but have been out of town for several
Saturdays and seem to be busy on Thursdays lately.
I just returned from Brodhead where we had a good turnout. Traded a
bunch of rides. Bob & Ileen Waldron flew their 24 in from MN; I had
never met them. A 24R that was disassembled for many years was
finally put together out at Dacy and was recently sold to someone out
west; it was in a hangar getting sorted out for the new owner. Don
Hegebarth drove in for the day on Saturday. Mike & Penny, Charlie &
Donna, and John Berendt drove in. Ed Wegner was there with his
Spartan. Ed Escallon, Dick Reich, and a few other PTs were there,
too. I saw Jack Woodfords 24W in his hangar there but didnt see Jack.
See you soon,
:Dan'
