'After looking at the photographs of Jamie Treat's 24 from times past, I would suspect that he has considered or has installed a safety cable between the motor and the airframe.
It looked like the only thing that kept the motor in place was sheet metal and fasteners.
If the sum total of major parts to your propeller doesn't exceed "1", you shouldn't need any insurance.
I know of only one single engine airplane that has lost a motor and was able to land safely. He did in fact lose everything firewall forward, land the airplane with only minor damage, and walk away from it. He flew it again at a later date.
Do I think I need a safety cable on my main gear, no. Does everything appear in good condition, yes. Will I put them on my gear, probably. We are still talking about 60 & 70 year old airplanes. Well, most of us are anyway.
One of these days, I'll be a happy Fairchild owner again, for now, just an owner.
