Help the limey

'I need some advice and sources of parts and expertise. I have
been having problems with the original cable-operated plate
brakes on the Rearwin (which will come as no surprise to some
people) and I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and go for
hydraulic brakes.

The wheels are 800 x 4 and I am concerned that I am not gong to
be able to get the wheel pants on again afterwards. Also getting
the parts over here is not easy and I can't just go along to a store
and pick them up. Does anyone have any experience of doing
this sort of change and can anyone offer some advice.

'Help the limey? Again? No way, I thought that was fixed over 200yrs
ago.
Seriously Melvyn, 800X4's sound like Cub stuff. Now, it depends a
bunch on your axle dimensions. Thoughts: If your axles are like
dimensions to Cub axles you could buy used servicable Cub expander
tube style brakes and then you would be in the same boat as most of
us Fairchild owners and learn the finer points of brake maintenance.
A lot of Cub folks are bailing out of the expander tubes (for
whatever reason) and these can be had complete(tires, tubes, wheels,
brgs,ex tubes, ,etc every thing on the landing gear) for any where
from $250 -$800. I bought a set for a Super Cruiser complete with a
spare new tire and tube for $325 inc. shipping. Add a pair of Scott
masters for $200 ea and there ya are. I think though, that since you
have such an abundance of power from that Warner that these would be
very marginal at best. They just BARELY hold back a 100hp o235.
OR..... The people changing their cubs are going to a Cleveland deal
(don't know the #'s) so it's obvious they fit and I am pretty sure
they are on Cubs that have their pants on (that didn't sound right).
Check with the CubClub folks after you get your axle dimensions down.
They may not respond to the enemy as this group has so if you need
the numbers we could see if we could round them up, or somebody else
here has plowed this ground before.
