'I'm curious how a person can sell aircraft logs etc. without having an airframe
connected to the deal. I saw an ad on Barnstormers for exactly that and I do
remember seeing an ad on the Fairchild newsletter a while back offering to buy
such paperwork.
If engine logs got sold to someone and they applied them to another engine and
used or sold the engine with these logs, I'd think it might be fraudulent. Would it
not be so with airframe logs too? Can one airframe and a pile of certifiable parts
actually become "another airplane" ? Maybe I've been dreaming in the homebuilt
world for too long. Just curious. Thanks..

What can happen is this. If you purchase a Airframe Log which has a Model
and S/N you can trace the owner ship thru the FAA. If you can find the
history and find the last owner, it may be possible to obtain conveyance of
ownership. Then you can have a new Data Plate manuf to support the paper
work. If you can purchase a project with an airframe or build a new airframe
from eng data, then you can apply the paperwork. The sticky part is the FAA.
One will be very careful on what you tell the FAA when applying for the
Airworthy Cert. It can be a long process sometimes years.
