'Has anyone taken their US-registered Fairchild into Canada lately?
I'm planning an ambitious trip for late this summer and was curious
if the 12" N-numbers on my wings will meet the requirements for
crossing the border (I don't want to put the big numbers on the side
of the fuselage).'

Re: Large N-Numbers
'According to the article "Vintage Aircraft Markings" (Vintage Airplane,
August 2001), Canada allows US aircraft at least 30 years old to enter
Canada with 2 inch numbers. I havent verified this personally, but the
Canadian Aircraft Regulations state:
202.01 (1) Subject to subsection (2), no person shall operate an
aircraft in Canada unless its marks are visible and are displayed
(a) in the case of a Canadian aircraft, in accordance with the
requirements of the Aircraft Marking and Registration Standards; and
(b) in the case of an aircraft registered in a foreign state, in
accordance with the laws of that foreign state.
so I think you would be ok under (b).

'I would worry about returning to the US. During my travels by air, the
issues were always with US Customs.

'Al and Dan:
Thanks for the replies. Al, you are exactly right about US Customs.
I fly for a living AND fly a Cessna 421 part time for a local
pharmaceutical rep. In both jobs, the biggest hassle about
international flying is dealing with US Customs on the way back.
It's a shame to see them using their position and enhanced, post 9-11
authority as a license to inconvenience law abiding citizens. Maybe
when they see how nice the Fairchild is, they won't be so difficult.
Thanks again for the replies.
