'Bob's right. Drain and flush, maybe put new seals in
your master cylinders. However, do a maintenance
record entry in your airframe log showing that you
worked on the brakes.

Re: Brakes again
'Wallace,
Do what Bob and Mike stated. Flush with De-Natured Alcohol. Run at least a
gallon thru the system. I would replace the master cyl seals. Raybetos Kit
(MK-33). Just use the seals and springs. The rest will not work. As for
logbook entries, I make up a Fluids list. This is so the next person will
not mix fluids which would ruin the system. Also never use Mil-H-5606 in the
brake system. You can switch all you F-24 struts to Dot 5, then you will not
mix match fluids around the airframe.

Re: Brakes again
'The DOT 5 silicone brake fluid is the way to go. FYI, it is also a good idea to change all of the copper gaskets at the banjo fittings located at the inlet of each of the brake expander tubes. The new copper gaskets can be duplicated at most auto parts stores. The copper gaskets are actually on some car airconditioning systems and some auto brake systems. Make sure that every fitting is clean and tight or you will experience leaks.

Re: Brakes again
'Thanks guys,
All of you seem to favor DOT 5. Since the one side has DOT 3 should
I convert it over while I'm at it? Or should I use DOT 3 on both
sides? It seems from what I read that DOT 3 doesn't creep as much
but eats paint and soaks up water. Here in Arizona I don't have to
worry much about the humidity.
Also, do you think that the rubber bladders have swollen out here. I
can't think of a reason why I'd suddenly have a brake drag when I
have never had troubles on that side in the past. Thanks for all of
your help.

Re: Brakes again
'Wallace,
One cause of excessive brake drag, is poor springs located between the pads.
Another cause is partial blockage of the vent hole in the master cylinder.
The vent hole in the cylinder is located under the protective 'tab' that you
can see when you remove the filler plug, and look straight down. I believe
that you can barely get at that hole. If that hole is plugged, then the
pressure won't release, when you take you foot off of the brake.

Re: Brakes again
'It seems that I kind of overlooked the obvious and didn't check the
vent cap on the master cylinder. The vent ball bearing was stuck and
was pressurizing the system when it was heated. That was why I
could't figure it out that the brake drag went away after the brakes
cooled. Thanks for all of your help with the system anyway. Brakes
are working fine now.
