Re: Aeromatic Prop?

' I've not flown a Aeromatic on a Fairchild 24, but have flown one on a Cessna C-165 Airmaster, and have also done a bit of experimentation with an Aeromatic on my 165 powered Ryan SC-W.
On the Airmaster, the Aeromatic is a great propeller for performance as compared to a wood prop or fixed pitch ...

Looking for Form 337s for Jasco alternators on Warner 165s

'Hello everybody,
I'm looking for copies of approved Form 337s for installing a Jasco 50A alternator on a Warner 165, to use as substantiating data for an installation on my Warner 165 powered Ryan SC-W. If you have an approved Form 337 for a Jasco on your Warner 165-powered Fairchild 24 and are ...

Re: Spruce Spar Material

'The PT center section is a challenge!
The past several years I've been working on a one-piece wing for a 1929 St. Louis Cardinal, which has 38' spars, 1.5" thick and 7" wide, with full routing. The factory spliced to make up the length, I laminated them in two plies as well to get thickness.
One ...

Re: Spruce Spar Material

'Grain density is only one of many factors although obviously important as Jamie points out. People should consult ANC-19 for guidance on grading.
I have more trouble finding suitable edge grained, non-spiraled, and limited knot hole material for large pieces. This is where splicing & laminating ...

Re: Spruce Spar Material

'Depending on how big a spar you need, I suggest lamination as the way to make up larger sized pieces. It is more work but results in a superior product.
For large material I've had to buy out of private stashes. Wicks & Spruce have set up exclusivity agreements that have locked out private buyers ...

Re: Propellor removal PT-26/19

'Yep, counterclockwise facing the engine, it is a standard right hand thread. Get the largest diameter steel rod that will fit into the nut holes, which I can't remember off the top of my head, probably 7/8" ? Smaller rods will bend if a 20-spline nut has been gorilla'ed on.
I use a ladder with a ...

Re: advise

'I use the Poly Fiber process, but we were talking about metal coatings in the powder vs. paint discussion, not fabric topcoat.
The Poly Fiber STC doesn't require a particular metal treatment the last time I looked, but does warn you that non-epoxy primers and varnishes will be attacked and will ...

Re: advise

'No, I do not have data on the relative weights. I doubt it would be substantially different if the coatings are applied correctly at a roughly 2 mil thickness given that the chemistries are similar.

Re: advise

'Both Tom and Jack are correct, you can get corrosion under either powder or paint. I think a lot of the argument boils down to religion and isn't based on fact. Here's the limited set of data I've been able to gather. Just for the record I prefer paint on my aircraft restorations, and use powder ...
