Civil Air Patrol -- Costal Patrol
' I found this on YouTube today. About a half hour video. Professionally prepared. I am not sure about the historical accuracy, but it is an interesting story. Civil Air Patrol Coastal Patrol, 1942-1943 https://ec.yimg.com/ec?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FoPE1HP2x4AM%2Fhqdefault.jpg&t=...

Re: 1" aluminum tubing bender for oil lines
'David,I think that you need a "PIPE" bender. Pipes have different outside diameters than tubes. That said, I will tell you that I used 1 inch aluminum for oil lines when I added an oil filter to my 1939 24 K, and included the 1/8 inch raised bead at the ends of each 'pipe' and double cl...

Re: Main Landing Gear Struts
' Buell, I made a tool from 1/4 inch steel plate, 3"x18". Drilled a hole near one end that exceeded the diameter of the strut, then cut a slot to that hole, to allow it to slip around the strut. I then drilled two 1/4 inch (?) holes to line up with the small holes in the top of the packi...

Re: F24 Rear lift struts
' Frank, I think that there are SOME holes on ALL the 24s. I believe that they held a 'screen door bracket' type of door catch, to hold the doors open. I agree with Jamie on welding them shut. You don't even have to grind the welds down very much, cause they are not visible. Bob Waldron1939 Fairc...

Fairings for F24 Landing Gear
'Hello, I am looking for the four fairings that attach to the fuselage end of the landing gear on the Fairchild 24. I never had them for my airplane. I don't even know what they look like. Does anyone have some for sale? If I can't buy them, I will try to make them. Anyone have patterns or drawings ...

Re: New Member... Ed Clayman F-24R builder
'Ed, I never heard of a Fairchild 24 with built in 'washout' or 'wash in' Be aware that the Early Fairchild 24s engine mounts were part of the fuselage. These are referred to as 'short nosed' Around 1939, Fairchild switched to a removable engine mount, which added 11 inches to the nose (and required...

Re: Envelope fitting
'George, There are TWO sizes of Fairchild 24 envelopes. One is the pre 1938 (three place?) version, and the other is the 1938 and later (4 place?) version. The latter is about six inches wider. I had that wider pattern created for me (by the Aircraft Supply Company in Georgia that was later purchase...

Re: Ranger oil pressure
'Lucky, I would worry with 40#. I have the 200hp and cruise at nearly 65#. Even cold, mine won't go over 70#. Because I have the huge oil cooler hanging out under my chin, I never see oil temp over 150. I agree with Jamie that you should open the pressure relief valve and look for carbon or varnish....
