Re: Russian or Chinese Radial on F24W?

'Tony,
I'm all for keeping the classics as original as possible but there are times when parts availability and economics make that very difficult. You are facing a problem that will eventually be the demise of many Warner powered 24s. I own one of the few flying Jacobs 755B2 powered F-24s around ...

Re: Tail Wheel Shimmy

'Your best bet would be to search the group archive .. there has been a great deal of discussion on this topic over the years. I think just about every 24 owner has experienced this problem at one time or another. If you haven't you probably will. I limit my hard surface operations just because I ...

Re: 24W's with STC'd engine alternates

'Hi Joe ...

I have a 1946 24W-46 with a Jacobs 755B2 (275HP) ... I love it but it's not for everyone. Performance it pretty remarkable and it sure looks good. Google N4263S and there is a local Atlanta photgrapher's site with a few good shots. Biggest problem with the Jake conversion is that the ...

Re: Landing gear bushings

'Back when I replaced all of my bushing, I was fortunate to have a buddy with access to a CNC lathe. We made all new bushing from high strength 954 bronze. As I recall there was a SB tied to the bushings and the previously installed softer bronze was replaced by the higher strength bronze... the ...

Re: F 24 antennae, etc

'Hugh,
I believe my aircraft is covered in the stitts/polyfiber process. AAE claims that the silver coats on the fabric do not interfere with the antenna performance if that is the concern.

Re: Entry Step

'Door handles can be purchased from www.lebaronbonney.com or www.oldmoparts.com. Mid 30s vintage chrysler I believe.

Re: Right side fuel valve for F-24

'I just went through the process of reworking my valves. They had become so difficult to turn that I was afraid I was going to become the subject of an NTSB report. On disassembling the valves I found that they had some deep scars and metal transfer. No wonder they were so difficult to turn. I had ...

Re: F 24 antennae, etc

'About two weeks ago I installed an Advanced Aircraft Electronics antenna in my F-24. Probably the best money I have spent in a long time. The antenna works great. One of the previous owners had installed a common quarter wave antenna on top of the cabin. They obviously did not grasp the basics of ...

Re: Fw: Continental & Jacobs engine mounts for F24s

'I am one of the few individuals, that I know of, currently operating a Jake powered F24. George Leighton is really the only other person I know personally and he is in the process of finishing up an engine change to a 755B2. I have commented to the group on several occasions how much I enjoy this ...
