Stromberg Carb Mixture Control?

Hi, I'm installing a zero-time W-165 in my F-24W, and it came with a Stromberg carb, not the Holley that was on my previous engine. In the Stromberg, the Mixture arm is Aft for Rich, the opposite of the Holley. So, the bell-crank and tie-rods don't work on this new installation (although the throttl...

STC Holder, W-670, Change

Hi All, The new holder of the STC for the conversion of the F-24 to the Continental 670 is Robert West of Abingdon VA. Does anyone have contact info for him? https://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgstc.nsf/0/79529607708FA2F9862586E8004818A6?OpenDocument&Highlight=%20robert,west Tha...

Re: F-24 Continental Conversion

Anybody able to connect me with the owner of a conversion? I'd sure like to have a chat.

The STCs in the FAA database are 1960, probably not much use.

Re: F-24W46 C-FEKC

Bart, I put the project on the back burner while I enjoyed the summer on my boat, and flying other aircraft. But now it's time to move it forward. After talking to Randy B and others, I've decided against repairing the 185. It was a helicopter engine anyway, designed to run a gearbox, not a prop. I ...

Re: W-670 conversion for F-24?

The Warner-185 in my F-24W46 has an unrepairable crankcase crack. It wasn't overpowered to begin with, so I'd rather not change to a W-165. So I too am looking into changing to a W-670. I'm in Canada, and would like it to stay a Certified aircraft. There is one conversion in Canada now that I know o...

F-24 Continental Conversion

The Warner 185 in my Fairchild has a case-crack. We may be able to weld it, but I think I should at least explore the possibility of converting the aircraft to a W-670 220 hp Continental. This would make parts and service much easier. I know it's been done a few times. I'd sure like to talk to someo...

Re: Thoughts on Warner oil coolers?

I have a Warner 185 installed in my F-24. This was done in the late 1940s. There is an oil cooler installed, but there is no real data on where it came from. It's on the firewall. A SCAT hose links the aft end of the blast tube to the cooler inlet shroud, then out through a port in the left aft cowl...

F-24W - Continental conversion

My F-24W-46 has a crack in the front case of it's Warner 185. It may be weldable. But if it isn't, one of the options is of course to re-engine it, and the R-670 is a candidate.

If anyone has experience with this, I'd sure like to have a chat. email me dave at hadfield dot ca

Thanks!

Dave

Re: F-24W46 C-FEKC

Well the site works better than my airplane at the moment. Crack in the Warner-185 crankcase.

I'm in touch with an overhauler recommended by Harman and others.

Anybody got a 185 crankcase?
