Re: Oil consumption on Ranger engine

'First and foremost, do NOT fill the tank. Regardless of when you add oil, there is always some oil hiding in the engine. I have watched this phenomenon for years. First someone fills the tank completely, after the airplane has been sitting. In this case there may be several GALLONS that have ...

Thanks for the input....still scratching my head, though...

'Anyone have the Scott Tailwheel installed on their 37 short nose? - The Fairbanks airplane has one installed, but the cables on this one are swaged onto the rudder cables, and the swages are snagging on the lower fuselage tubing - anyone have this issue?

Prepping the 1937 "short nose" C8F here in Fairbanks for return to service....and we have a mystery on the airbox to Carb connection- it has the stromberg carburetor. As you can see the air tube from the bottom of the Carburetor does not line up with the Airbox....

Is this the wrong airbox ...

Re: PT flap lever helper

'Fellow Fairchild Flyers

I teach in a PT-19 in Camarillo Ca.....and I would be very interested in learning about this assist lever - the only complaint I have about the airplane is that it is cumbersome (especially for new students) to reach down far enough to activate the flaps- in the front pit ...

Thanks for the input, we figured out that the bearings are just pressed into the tubes. I fashioned a soft pine 1 by 2 with a yoke that just fit the vertical on the inboard pedal, then a couple of good taps with an 8 pound ball peen, and they popped right ...
