"Stits Epoxy Varnish" has our vote as well.
We (Air Zoo) restored a 1943 vintage Howard-Built PT-23 and used Stits products exclusively for all applications.
Regular "Spar" varnish or un-catalyzed polyurethane varnish is not impervious to dope or lacquer based finishes.
