Re: wing interchangeability question and wings for sale ?

'I could probably agree that F-24 wings are interchangable, but they are not identical. My 1946 F-24, due to accident repairs, had one left ex-military wing, and a right Pre-War civilian wing. If I wanted to drive people nuts, I should have put the right Nav light on the leading edge, and the left ...

Question about the Rudder/fuselage/stabilizer fairing.

'I think that my fairing has been altered slightly, to make allowances for modifications due to crash.
My questions is "Is the fairing, where it mates up to the top of the fuselage, looking at it in the for & aft line, Is it straight and flat or does the last 1/2-3/4" curve slightly toward the ...

Re: F-24 wash-in?

'It is 4:30 am for me, so I may not understand exactly what you are saying, but the wings on my 24 are, for the most part, the originals and new ones, are flat as a pancake. If there is any wash In/out, it wasn't apparent to me.
I built the new wings and stayed was close to the original as I could ...

Re: Brake master cylinder kit

'I know the NAPA Kit #1 is for the master cylinders on my F-24's. The NAPA number is "7 47730 08109 0". I don't know if the "7" or "0" are significant numbers. It is for 1 1/4" diameter cylinders . It fits perfectly on the models that I have.

Re: Prop Question

'I don't have much information, but it is an old copy of some stuff that I
found at the FAA office many years ago (1974). It shows a 24R46 only a
175hp using a 86RB60 Sensenich. The C-61 & UC-61K with 200hp as using an
86AB54.
Looking at the numbers leave me with doubts. The prop for the ...

Re: F24R9 ldg.gear universal joints

'Just to add some to what I said the other day.

I would use 2 4x4's for the verticals. Set the bottoms about 1 1/2 ft apart, than nail triangular gussets to both sides and low enough just to clear the gear leg and all the way to the top. I used a scissor jack on top and to steady the jack and tri ...

Re: F24R9 ldg.gear universal joints

'The last time that I did work on the landing gear, I used a rope around the top motor mounting, right at the fire wall. Another was I did it, was to make a simple "A" frame that would straddle the main gear leg, and jack the airplane up at a point inboard of the oleo strut attach point, on the tri ...

Re: Fairchild 24 Wing rebuild

'Wash out.....I don't think so. I rebuilt mine and basically went with the wing being perfectly flat. In the rigging department, I don't remember ever seeing any numbers that suggest any wash-out. I paid particular attention to making that the internal structure was as square as possible. I made ...

Re: F24R9 ldg.gear universal joints

'I know many owners don't have a clue, when looking at the universals, to
know which is which. The ones that need to be replaced don't have bushings,
and if you place one of the un-good ones beside the good ones, you will also
see that the bad ones are slightly smaller. The markings on either ...

Re: Fuselage covering

'Have fun. All that I can say is to take a really good look at the fuselage and try to catch the things that you have forgotten.

If you have stringers that don't have an even progression/spread, believe me, you will hate yourself for not catching it before you covered them. I reinforced curvature ...
