Re: Wing struts for F 24W

'Mike,
I believe that all Fairchild 24 struts have holes in them. They held the 'screen door latch' that held the door open, by snapping into the other half of the 'screen door latch' that was attached to the bottom of the door.

'I don't think that ANDY was injured a few month ago. Mark Holiday suffered near mortal injuries when the Fokker DR.I TriPlane that he was flying crashed. Mark is miraculously recovering, I believe that the plane was destroyed.

Re: Ranger

'Have your friend contact Andy Parks. Andy flies a Foker D-VII with an inverted Ranger. I believe that his dad built the airplane. He had some engine problems at first, but I believe that they are all sorted out now. His airport is 5,000 feet MSL (1,500 m). He is a nice (but busy) fella. He has a ...

Re: enlighten me

'Frank,

About twenty years ago, I tried to install an envelope on my fuselage. It was too small. At that time, I remembered seeing many Fairchild 24s with an ugly dart added towards the rear window. I realized that the envelope was the wrong size. I talked to a wonderful lady who was the chief ...

Re: enlighten me

'Jeff,

I have not seen your photo, but it probably wouldn't help me at all.

My 24K was shipped with a 165 hp engine and my IA got a 337 for installing the 200 hp with a plaque that states that the take-off should be kept below 165 hp. I have the Beechcraft adjustable prop and am normally ...

Re: enlighten me

'Jeff,

Early Fairchild 24s (at least the ranger powered ones)had the engine mount integral to the frame. These are referred to as the 'short nosed' Rangers. The problem for the company, was that they had to know what engine they were going to mount on the airplane when they began building the ...

Re: hot start probs

'Hi whoever you are,

If your airplane has 60 year old mags that have never been serviced, you should look into Fresno Air Parts rebuilts (for $425.00 each). Great mags and will eliminate most problems. I think they sell new coils for $100.00.

Coils fail when they get old or when they get hot ...

Re: Ranger Engine Parameters

'Dan,

I think you are doing just fine. Many engine pros want engine oil temp of at least 185 degrees, in order to remove moisture from the engine oil. I have a 1939 with a large oil cooler hanging out the bottom, and can't get my oil over 160 degrees unless I block off part of the cooler.
